The Motoring Scene

To begin with, the price of fuel has gone sky high! But then I'm sure you will have noticed that with so many factors at play in the recent rocket ship ride of oil prices, far be it for me to offer any more sage analysis than what you may already have heard:

1. That the conflict in Iraq has contributed to OPEC price instability.

2. That the recent hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico have played havoc with US and international petroleum production and refinement in the region.

3. A general recognition that energy consumption practices must be seriously altered.

4. That, as Harry Potter seems to be everywhere these days, he must be involved, though J.K. Rowling has remained suspiciously quiet about it.

Anyone over 40 has been hearing about the inevitable depletion of fossil fuels since the aptly named 'energy crisis' of the mid 1970's, when for the first time, the West came face to face with the grim facts that:

1. Arab oil producing nations (OPEC) as well as Russian oil and gas, effectively have the world over the proverbial barrel, (of oil that is - black gold, Teheran tea) because of our frighteningly wasteful consumption of oil and gas at present.

AND

2. Our grossly improvident guzzling of said fuel HAD to be radically restructured, BEFORE we ran out of the stuff, or we all have to become familiar with the old horse and buggy once more.

That was thirty years ago and sadly, very little seems to have fundamentally changed since then. OPEC & Co still have the West over a barrel, and that's simply because we haven't altered our consumption practices to any great degree.

Or have we?

There's no question that automobile manufacturers are producing more fuel-efficient cars than ever before. Compared to even the early 80's, automobiles today generally have much higher fuel efficiency than their forebears.

Manufacturers have even gone so far as to create the 'Hybrid' vehicle - a car that runs on a combination of traditional petroleum and electricity. It does so by converting normally unused combustion engine energy, such as that normally squandered by braking or coasting, into electricity and storing it in a battery.

This energy can then be used when needed by the hybrid's electrical motor to assist the conventional engine at times when it's at its least efficient - generally during low speed driving conditions or when climbing steep inclines.

Then there is the even more futuristic fuel cell vehicle. Essentially, this is a car which runs on a device (another highly specialized battery) which converts oxygen and hydrogen into water, the end result of the process being electricity that is then used to power the motor. Unlike conventional batteries, whose internally stored chemicals are finite and are eventually depleted, thus rendering the battery expendable, the fuel cell battery will continue to produce electricity as long as oxygen and hydrogen are continually introduced into it.

Apart from being relatively cheap to maintain, one of the main selling points of this design is that with the chemicals used to stimulate the process including pure hydrogen, the sole by-products of such an engine would be nothing more harmful to our environment than water vapour and heat. We could say farewell to the catalytic converter and emissions guidelines and testing, forever. Yes I know, it brings tears to your eyes, doesn't it?

The automobile industry is clearly being forced to re-think its approach to fuel efficiency even further, as the line-ups and gas gouging prices of the 70s are with us once again, although thankfully they've left their bell bottoms and platforms boots at home this time.

The 80's and 90's were conspicuous by the appearance of the 'monster' car. SUV's and mammoth trucks were all the rage offering an unprecedented sense of status, luxury and power for anyone with the laissez-faire to fork out tens of thousands of £'s or $'s for what amounted to a living room on wheels.

This decade seems certain to be characterized by just the opposite. Smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, even those that run on alternative forms of energy such as hybrids, electricity, or hydrogen fuel cells, are being marketed as the way of the future.

The question is, will these automobiles capture the interest and the buying power of the customer before the reappearance of the horse drawn carriage?

Similarly, knowledge itself, as described by writer James Burke, is "a gigantic and ever-growing sphere in space and time, made up of millions of interconnecting, crisscrossing pathways."

Knowledge has never been so linked together as it is now on the World Wide Web.

The World Wide Web is growing organically, like a great shout of unity across the world. Perhaps each day, we who use it, are reinventing the freedom of speech that once existed in ancient Athens, a freedom which will lead to a whole new world of creativity for everyone.

How to Make a Life Changing Opportunity with an Internet Marketing Strategy

Have you been attempting to create an MLM Success story from a network marketing program only to find it not the life changing opportunity you had hope for?

You are not alone. In fact if you have tried several programs or have read enough articles, you have probably read the disheartening statistics. Some say as high as 98 to 99% fail to earn or earn less than $500 a month. The latter of which could mean a huge difference in someone’s life, so we do not want to discount that as not being a success.

However for many a Life Changing Opportunity means getting out of the daily nine to five (or worse). Now days, many are working more than one job to make ends meet.

This is a large topic, but here are some basics that can be easily overlooked, but once embraced could turn your business failure into a MLM success or yes, even a life changing opportunity for all you touch:

Understand Network Marketing or MLM. Many get into this business with the wrong idea or no idea. In fact, Network Marketing (or Multi-Level-Marketing) is not an industry; it is a valid and legal method of distribution. This is a method that is generally chosen by an entrepreneur that has a vision or product manufactured (in house, or by a third party). This entrepreneur(s) puts together products or services, product packaging, handles accounting, marketing tools creation, warehouses, shipping, IT functions and much more. The entrepreneur compensates independent reps that agree to purchase products or services and find others to do the same. This is also known as referral marketing and is frequently found in some form even in the most conventional businesses.
Your agreement is to become a customer and find others willing to become customers that want to do the same. However, don’t ever rule out retail sales. Ask about this.

Know your market ~ meaning; when you start out, before you sign up, do your homework. There is a lot of talk about having “passion” about your business for success to come. This is true, but passion may come as a result of learning and growth. I have met many successful people that did not have a passion for the business products, but became more passionate the more they learned about them and how they were helping others (particularly true in the Health and Wellness arena from my personal experience). Belief in the product niche and having an interest on some level is highly recommended.

Is your business mature? Are they financially sound with a proven track record? The intention here is not to give all the steps of picking an opportunity, but provide a basic overview. The intention here is not to provide you with all the “due diligence” of picking a life changing opportunity. Some items to consider are 1. How long in business. 2. Cost of getting into business. 3. Is the business product sales based? Make sure you are rewarded for product volume sales and not just strictly recruiting ~ in other words, compensation rewards should always come as a result of product moving (sales ~ new or existing customers or representatives).

Treat your business like a business. Most of us have a JOB mentality, however, new habits can be developed and the “do nothing” syndrome after work will be vanquished for the most part, once you have seen some results.
Write it down and review: Write your long term goals to see the big picture. Create that dream board you may have heard about. Write down your monthly, weekly and daily strategies and tactical actions and review them on specific time frame.
Keep good records of spending and stick to your budget. Budget? Yes, this is a business, so a prudent measure would be to create a budget and stay within it. When you begin to see predictable patterns develop at some point, you will learn when you can begin to expand or maybe even seek some help if necessary.

Follow the company recommendations on building your business. If you do have ways that have proven effective outside the company norm, it certainly is your right and in your best interest to share them with your team, so long as they do not violate any terms and conditions. Most companies will approve any ethical actions and or make recommendations so as to keep you in compliance with policy and law. Use the ‘system tools’, since this way all that come aboard will learn the same thing from the same language. If your mother company has events, promote them as well, they will generally work for your benefit.

Here is where I will deviate from the norm…

Most Network Marketing companies will encourage you to build from you warm market list, as you should. However, very few, at this writing, are teaching Internet Marketing Strategies as applied to Network Marketing.

There are reasons for this. One of course, is that the overwhelming majorities of those entrepreneurs that own network marketing companies are not well versed in Internet Marketing strategies and is seen as a diversion from the warm market strategy by many.

However, a phenomenon has developed with the new networking sites, blogging, video, and other technologies. Many people that do have knowledge of Internet Marketing skills that have picked up on this growing internet phenomenon are using all of these forums to a great advantage. Now it has become essential with more and more people “warming” up to the internet for more and more information, there is a huge opportunity for those that understand the interaction of all of these networks and businesses we like to call “search engines” that all of us in Network Marketing cannot ignore.

But, please do not become overwhelmed with this. Simply take it one step at a time. Your sponsor or team site will help you get started. If you have had experience, then you can learn about your new opportunity, and then begin to figure out how to apply any new Internet Marketing strategies.

It is tremendously exciting to find out how these networking sites, blogging, article submissions, linking, and search engine placement all fit together and can actually be accomplished by the “average Joe”. Yes it is true; most anyone with the desire can do all of the above. And with the right team, even more can be accomplished.

Dog Grooming Tips

No matter what breed of dog you plan to purchase there are some grooming tips you will want to know. All dogs need proper grooming for the health and attractiveness of the breed. Read on to find out what you need to do in the grooming process and learn how beneficial it is to not only to your dog but for you as well.

Coat Grooming

All dogs have coats; some are short, long, wire-haired, curly, straight, or wavy. No matter the coat, you will need to invent in a good brush. The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

All over the world various species of animals, insects, and plants are being slowly wiped out. Some may argue that it is the natural order of things, but human involvement has certainly exasperated the issue, causing untold amounts of damage to the worlds ecosystems. All of the world, that is, except for the Arctic Circle and Alaska.

The Arctic is home to many different species of birds, bears, fish, and other animals. Much of the Arctic is still unspoiled, and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) intends to keep it that way. This organization and reserve sees the value in unspoiled landscapes and thriving wildlife.

The ANWR reserve spans over nineteen million acres, and within its boundaries there are over 500 different species of recognizable wildlife, and many more that have yet to be discovered. Some of the world's most succulent fish find their way in and out of this reserve, and many native tribes continue to live here.

Life, Untainted

Life continues to exist and thrive without human intervention. In fact, it could be said that the biggest attraction of the ANWR is the continuation of life cycles before the recent intervention of man. The wildlife continues to raise their young, hunt and forage, and evolve in peace.

This situation is particularly unique due to the climate of northern Alaska and the Arctic Circle- the extreme temperatures and high amounts of snow have kept humans and animals alike from setting up camp. However, with recent oil projects starting up in Alaska, the ANWR's role will become more important than ever as it strives to maintain the unspoiled solitude that the wildlife has enjoyed for thousands of years.

The results of this untainted lifestyle are easy to see: the fish are healthier and larger, the land animals graze in packs, and the hunters stalk without fear of reprisal. There is no pollution, no noise, and no intervention. Just nature doing what it was always intended to do.

See the Refuge

Close your eyes for a moment and picture the sun setting over the hills. A stream runs through the valley that you are standing in, and the few remaining rays of sunlight reflect off of the water, giving it a golden edge. A flock of Geese fly overhead, their call echoing unchallenged throughout the landscape. A few Moose stand at the base of the stream, drinking the golden water. You sense peace, and feel as if the world has all but disappeared, if only for a few fleeting moments.

You can open your eyes. Nowhere else in the world will you be able to see or experience something as tranquil and serene. Tourists are able to see certain areas of the ANWR and experience some of the magic themselves. But remember, life here is how it was meant to be, you may find that you won't want to leave.

Science, Healthy Lifestyles, Global Warming - Mandarins in Manhattan

Throughout the expansion of people around the earth the movements have generally spread east and west out of Africa, and most have stayed in the wide central middle climate zones between both poles where the science shows that healthy lifestyles are easier if you can grow crops all year. Thus in the west it was that as people migrated to the north from Egypt they found winter storms could happen in Athens or Rome. And thus developed the need for storage for the times when science says if the average temperature falls below 40 F crops will not grow.

And after the times of Alexander the Great, the creation of his majestic port at the mouth of the life giving Nile made possible increasing crops in ever fertile Egypt to soon become the bread basket for Athens and then Rome. And even before Athens back into the far reaches of time, people had been forced southward in Europe and all northern regions of earth, at both poles really. The cave drawings in southern France also show reindeer bones at layers when England was covered in ice.

We have moved north and south several times. And with our human help, it is rather speeding up this time, as the flowing water out of expanding holes in glaciers shows from Greenland and Canada to the Antarctic. Soon the always frozen seas of northern Canada will be open to traffic, the long sought northwest passage which actually is a huge short cut for trade between Europe and Asia. All win with lower costs and quickly delivery in this case. There is that issue about the sea rising, which may create Dutch type cities and the need to adapt to what ever is coming at us.

If New Orleans needs 10 feet high dikes, let us build them. In some areas less precious or historic, maybe we need to move to high ground also. But what is coming is the northward ability of crops, from Changsha Mandarin Oranges and hardy banana trees up in west coast Canada, to grizzly bears mating with polar bears as they reach the Arctic Ocean, where small trees are starting to poke up from the permafrost. And we now have other burning bushes to put out while California crops and vineyard dry out as we find the Sonoran desert moving northward, burning bushes by bush.

Meanwhile Manhattan will sonn grow Mandarin oranges as now in the frost zones of Manchuria. And as grizzly bears have now reached the Arctic Ocean, we in Canada now have a new worry: what do you call a baby bear, still white but with a black mouth, who had a Grizzly for a daddy, and a Polar kind of mom? Change would be good.
